What is this programme about?Photography & New Media, BA
We are in a cultural and historical period in which our society is surrounded and influenced by a wealth of photography like never before. We see it as our task to give students an understanding of the visual and technical skills necessary to understand, critically question, and reflect on different visual languages. Understanding the medium of photography and its conscious use are therefore indispensable not only in art, but also in advertising and editorial work.
The University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) has a pioneering study programme in this field. We were among the first German private universities to establish a photography programme. During your studies, you’ll familiarise yourself with and try out various photographic genres, such as portrait, fashion, art, and documentary.

Photography & New Media at a glance
The Bachelor’s degree programme Photography & New Media is divided into module groups. In the basics, creative skills such as light, colour design and image composition, as well as the complete analogue and digital workflow, are taught. In parallel, the theoretical subjects provide an overview of historical and contemporary developments in art, photography, design and film.
In the project modules, there is the possibility of specialisation in individual genres of photography. Students can use our professional equipment (photo studios, the darkroom, printing workshop, scan labs, Mac Pools and loan equipment) for their projects.
The range of interdisciplinary courses, workshops and study trips also allows students to acquire knowledge from other design courses. The choice between an internship in Germany or abroad or a guest study programme at one of our partner universities is intended to broaden your personal and professional horizons before the final semester of the bachelor’s degree, when the sharpening and definition of your individual photographic profile are imminent.
